About MowerBench
MowerBench is an independent review site. Landscape designer who spent 15 years installing lawns, then switched to reviewing robot mowers after installing 30+ of them for clients who hated mowing. Lives on a 0.4-acre lot with a tricky slope, a garden, and a dog that chases anything that moves. Has run 6 different robot mowers through two full Minnesota seasons, including winter storage, spring installs, and the great mulberry-leaf clog of 2024.
Who's Behind This
Ingrid, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has been testing robot lawn mowers for years. Every review on this site comes from hands-on time with the actual product — not spec sheets.
How We Test
- ✅ No sponsored reviews. We never accept payment for placements.
- ✅ Honest comparisons. If a product isn't good, we'll tell you.
- ✅ Transparent methodology. We explain exactly how we test and rate.
- ✅ Affiliate disclosure. Some links earn us a commission at no cost to you.
What We Believe
- A robot mower is a lawn system, not an appliance. The install is the product; the mower is the robot that executes it.
- Perimeter wire is the real cost. A 'wire-free' mower that needs RTK has its own problems - tree cover kills the signal.
- Slope ratings are marketing. I've watched a '25% slope' mower slide sideways on wet grass at 18%.
- The app is a feature, not the mower. If scheduling fails, the robot is a very slow Roomba.
